Club Ricochet Hygiene Week 5

I am sticking to my plan of blogging once a day for the next week until I am all caught up. I feel so behind and with all the exciting Christmas stuff coming, I want to be able to post pictures and videos as soon as possible!

Week 5 of Club Ricochet was hygiene week. Maria, a good friend from church, is a dental assistant and agreed to come in and teach the kids about the importance of brushing their teeth and keeping healthy!  We started this week with a really fun memory verse game. The memory verse has been the same throughout all of the week. 1 Peter 4:10 “Each of you should use whatever gift you have received to serve others, as faithful stewards of God’s grace in its various forms.”

ImageOne at a time each kid got to pick a balloon, pop it however they wanted and open up the small paper inside to see what it said.  Inside every balloon was part of the memory verse and they had to put their piece of paper in order. They loved the game because of the balloons, but I was also super impressed with each of them really starting to learn the verse.

After the game, Maria talked to the kids and taught them the correct way to brush their teeth.  The kids also watched a short video of what would happen if they didnt take care of themselves and stay healthy.  Surprisingly, the kids lovedddddd all this information. I really thought they wouldn’t be interested but I was so wrong!

For the next 20 minutes we played musical chairs while Maria took each child out to „test” them on how they brush their teeth.  They couldnt WAIT to do it!

Because we talked about the importance of health this week, we made a big fruit salad for the kids and gave them water. When they left we gave them a washcloth bag filled with a toothbrush, toothpaste, orange, and the English words for next week.

Like I said, I was so surprised with how much the children enjoyed this week.  They know, love and respect Maria, so that helped them focus, but they were generally interested by it all. They dont have access to a lot of information regarding hygiene so for them, it was mostly all new information.

Stay tuned for the next blog post on our Club Ricochet’s Art Week!
